a^{2} + b^{2}= c^{2}

Pythagorean Theorem
Find the longest side c of a right triangle when the smaller two sides a and b are given.
Example If a = 5, b =12, find c.
5 ^{2} + 12 ^{2} = 169 c = √169 = 13

A train starts in one direction at 60 mph. At the same time, 1050 miles away, a second train travels in the opposite direction at 45 mph. How long does it take the two trains to reach each other?

This is a rate, time, and distance problem. Let x = time it takes to reach each other.
60x + 45x = 1050
