Story: Rosa wants to own a restaurant. Her boyfriend comes to visit and proposes to her. They talk about their plans and discover that they don’t agree on anything. When both Victor and Katherine have to leave the restaurant, Rosa experiences being in charge and discovers that she can do a good job as manager.
Parent/Child Discussion: What are your children’s career goals? Parents discuss at home and report back to the group.
Have a field trip to the library and choose books
that relate to children’s career goals, such as:
Find out: How does school help children prepare for future careers? What classes, programs, and activities help them learn about the world of work?
Career Day: Find out if local schools sponsor a
career day. If so, encourage parents to become involved in the planning
and implementation of the program; or, as a group, find out how you can
create a career day for your local schools. Guest Speaker: Invite a guidance counselor or college financial aid expert to speak to the class on paying for post-secondary education.
Explore a career website. The following has many useful tools and links for exploring careers: www.mtsu.edu/~career/plan.htm
