Date reviewed

Type of material  Internet

Short Summary

The site says that it provides up-to-date news stories from around the world although it appears that the last stories published were in April 2003.  Several news stories provide streaming audio along with cloze and multiple choice reading activities.  The activities are for intermediate to advanced ESL students and do provide real-life materials for contextual learning.

General interest articles use easier English but are only auditory.  No questions are available to ascertain listening/comprehension skill.

Where/How could this resource be used?

This is not only a good resource for listening practice for ESL students but also a good activity for low-level readers due to audio component.  The problem may arise, though, that the site may not be up-dated since it is - published - by an individual and not a company or institution.

The site says that it is a free resource for math review material from Algebra to Differential Equations with more than 2,500 Math pages filled with short and easy-to-understand explanations.  Fractions, percent conversions, dimensional analysis (unit conversion), algebra and higher level math topics are covered.  This site is not for a low level student.

CyberExam is.  CyberExams (a place for students to take practice tests, midterm exams, final exams, quizzes, projects) are available (non-tutorial) covering Intermediate Algebra through Calculus and Differential Equations.  Questions are corrected online and the student can redo to arrive at the correct answer.  No help is given.

Students can ask questions on their CyberBoard and print various math tables listing mathematical formulas, etc, that could be used as student resources.
