Notification of Scholarship Assistance 2008

Montana Association for Adult and Community Education

The purpose of this year’s scholarship is to provide assistance for MAACE members to attend the First Annual Summer Conference at Kwa Taq Nuk Resort on the Lake, Polson, MT. June 25 – 27, 2008.  This conference has a math focus, but there will be a broader base of offerings to include all adult educators in the State.  Four awards of $500 each will be given to MAACE members from Adult Learning Centers in Montana.

Because of the importance of professional development, MAACE will offer this scholarship, even though state leadership funds from OPI are no longer available.  Scholarship awards will be based primarily on the individual’s ability to demonstrate how his/her attendance at the proposed event will be professionally and programmatically beneficial.

 Restrictions:

Scholarships are to be used for the Summer Conference only.  If a recipient wishes to make a change or withdraw, a request must be made in writing in advance.  A scholarship may not be transferred to another person.  E-mail requests, with a returned acknowledgment of the e-mail, are acceptable.

 Criteria for Selection:

1. Applicant must be currently involved in adult/community education in Montana.
2. Applicant must be an active, current (2008) member of MAACE
3. Applicant must show how the selected conference or workshop fits into their professional development plan and how the activity will enhance their professional skills.
4.  Evidence that attendance at the conference will benefit the recipient and others through in-services, newletters, or other activities.
5. Some consideration may be given for geographic distribution of awards.
6. Priority may be given to individuals who haven’t received a scholarship during the last two years.
7. Application MUST be postmarked or e-mailed by the established deadline.

 Review Process:

Three members of MAACE, appointed by the President and the Board of Directors, will review all applications.  Reviewers will look for evidence that the applicant is an active MAACE member.  Notification of awards will be sent to applicants 2-3 weeks after the application deadline.

 Applications must be postmarked or submitted electronically by April 2, 2008.
