Individual at this level will have mastered the competencies at Level TECH A and will demonstrate the following competencies before advancing to the next level:

·         Troubleshoot computer problems.  (Learner will verify that surge protector is on and speakers and headphones are connected and working.)

·         Open a word processing program.  (Learner will correctly open a word processing program such as MS Word, WordPerfect, etc. from the Start button’s Programs menu and from the program’s icon.)

·         Create a simple text document.  (Learner will create a simple text document while appropriately using the following keys: shift, arrow key, space bar, backspace and delete.)

·       Select text and alter font style, size and appearance.  (Learner will select text and use tool bar icons to change font style, size and apply underlining, boldfacing, and italicizing to text.)

·         Save a document.  (Learner will use the file menu to save a document on either the hard drive or a floppy disk.)

·         View a document before printing.  (Learner will open, view and close the file print preview option from the file menu.) 

·         Print a document from the file menu.  (Learner will select the file menu, choose the print option, make desired selection in page range option and click “ok”.)

·         Close a document.  (Learner will demonstrate two methods of closing a document.).

·         Explain the difference between a program and a document.  (Learner will explain the difference and give an example of a program and an example of a document.)

Individuals at this level will have mastered the competencies at Level TECH B and will demonstrate the following competencies before advancing to the next level:

·      Demonstrate an understanding of a computer’s desktop, filing system and drives.  (Learner will correctly access desktop, open appropriate drives, folders and files.)

·      Retrieve an existing document.  (Learner will correctly locate and open a file.) 

·      Edit an existing document.  (Learner will correctly set and change margins; correctly format line spacing, alignment and tab settings; correctly copy text to another part of a document; correctly cut text and paste to another part of a document; and, correctly delete text from a document.)

·      Use SPELL CHECK and correct errors in a document.  (Learner will correctly use tools menu and correct errors.)

·      Save a file as a new document.  (Learner will use correctly file menu function, enter new file name and save document.)

·      Create simple tables.  (Learner will create a simple table with a minimum of two columns/four rows and will insert text into each cell.)

·      Create a FAX cover sheet and demonstrate the procedures for using a FAX machine.  (Learner will correctly use the FAX Wizard and demonstrate procedures for operating a FAX machine.)

Individuals at this level have mastered the competencies at Level TECH C and will demonstrate the following competencies before advancing to the next level:

·      Create a business letter using a word processing program.  (Learner will compose a business letter from a given topic.) 

·      Select and use the appropriate document template for different types of documents.  (Learner will select two document templates and create a document from each template.)

·      Access a specific Web page (URL).  (Learner will correctly type in a web address from a web browser or Web server.)

·      Search the Internet using search engines to obtain information.  (Learner will correctly access two search engines and obtain information on a selected topic.)

·      Evaluate and select appropriate information from multiple resources to complete a research assignment. (Learner will research a topic by moving effectively within multiple web pages and will copy and paste information from the Internet to a Word document.)

·      Use e-mail. (Learner will open an email account, compose and send an e-mail message with an attachment and reply to an email.)

·      Create a simple PowerPoint presentation. (Learner will create a three slide presentation using design template, auto lay-out, clip-art and text.)
